Done is better than perfect

Yesterday, my friend and I recorded the first episode of our podcast.

It was…good. Not great. But definitely good enough.

In January, we recorded a few conversations with my phone as practice. Those were fun, light, and valuable. But that was in person.

I noticed the difference immediately yesterday. Over Zoom, the timing is way more awkward when it comes to interrupting someone. The comedy didn’t flow as well.

Plus our mics seemed to have different volumes. That all combined to make an overly-professional first half. Then we clearly got comfortable halfway through and began vibing off one another.

The goal was accomplished: to have fun with my friend.

And at the end of the day, the most important thing was done: We actually did it. It exists.

We could’ve spent weeks prepping and planning the perfect episode. But that sounds like an amazing way to not do the thing we actually want to do.

Perfect is the enemy of done. Connor’s partner gave us immediate feedback. So episode 2 is now guaranteed to be better. We have a place to work from.

When we finish five episodes, we’ll release them all at once.

Hope you guys don’t hate them.
